About Immediate First Aid

Expert first aid training at your location

All of our instructors are experienced firefighters as well as certified Red Cross instructors. We work to combine real world experience with professional teaching methods to deliver a positive and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.

Immediate First Aid teaches its courses at the location of your choice. Our instructors will come to you, fully equipped with all the materials required to teach the course, including first aid supplies, trainer AED's, CPR dummies and anything else required to ensure an excellent experience for all members of the class.

Our Lead Instructors

Darryl Stroet
Darryl has been a paramedic since 1992. He started in the fire service as an on-call Firefighter in 1997 and is currently active in the design and implementation of firefighter rehabilitation (rehab), allowing the health of firefighters to be monitored and treated while working on a fire scene.
David Butterworth
As a District Chief in the fire service (paid on call), David is very involved in the training of new firefighters and the recertification of experienced members of the fire service. He has also worked with schools, offering the Babysitter's course, Emergency and Standard First Aid. David has a teaching degree from McGill University.
Mark Goddard
Mark has been involved in firefighting and first aid since 1998 and is an Assistant Fire Chief. He has a great deal of experience teaching first aid in and outside of the fire service. Mark enjoys the outdoors and is an avid sport fisherman.

Standard First Aid & CPR

Comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. (Duration: 14-16 hrs)

Wilderness & Remote First Aid & CPR

Basic level of Wilderness & Remote First Aid that covers material in Standard First Aid & CPR, plus special material on techniques for wilderness and remote areas. Course also offers strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. Part of the course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training. Suitable for those who work or live in remote locations or who are outdoor recreation enthusiasts. (Duration: 20 hours - more than 25% of course taught in nonurban setting, if possible)

Babysitting

Basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth 12-15 years old. Participants learn how to provide care to younger children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. Course also offers youth the training to promote themselves as a babysitter to prospective parents. (Duration: 8 hrs)

First Responder

Pre-hospital care and CPR skills for professional first responders or those wanting to become first responders. Course teaches techniques for sustaining life, preventing further injuries, and caring for illnesses and injuries until the next level of medical personnel arrives. Includes CPR level BLS and AED. (Duration: 40 hrs)

OFA Level 1

Red Cross Emergency First Aid (EFA) is an OFA Level 1 course. Students learn how to deal with common workplace first-aid emergencies. Also, Worksafe requirements and regulations for injury treatment and reporting are explained in detail. CPR and the use of an AED is included in this course.

The Red Cross Workplace Emergency First Aid program is recognized by WorkSafe BC as equivalent to the OFA Level 1 program.

Advanced First Aid (AFA)

A comprehensive course offering advanced first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those typically designated as a workplace first aid attendant. Course covers a variety of topics from basic (circulation and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission) to advanced (sudden medical emergencies and injuries to the head and/or spine), including instruction dedicated to understanding workplace legislation and responsibilities. (Duration: 80 hrs | Recert: 40hrs)

First Aid Instructor (FAI)

Provides candidates with the knowledge and skills to teach core Red Cross First Aid & CPR courses: Emergency and Standard First Aid, CPR/AED, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency and Standard Child Care First Aid. Includes how to teach and facilitate, individual and group assignments, practice teaching, injury prevention principles, inclusion, and progressive learning. (Duration: 32 hours)

Prerequisites: First Aid with CPR Level BLS; complete skills check-list prior to course with a First Aid Instructor; min. 18 years old.

Professional Responder Instructor (FRI/EMRI)

We focus on instructional techniques required to deliver the Canadian Red Cross specialized courses such as First Responder, Emergency Medical Responder, or Marine Advanced First Aid; these include delivering scenarios, teaching in varied environments, and organizing specialized courses. The course content accommodates a variety of Instructor candidates which encourages a rich learning environment built on instructional skills. (Duration: 8 hours)

Prerequisites: Proof of appropriate participant-level certification (either First Responder or Marine Advanced First Aid); completion of Red Cross First Aid Instructor course, completed skills competency check-list for participant level, pre-course assignment, 19 years of age.

Childcare First Aid and CPR

Basic one-day course offering an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills with a focus on childhood injuries and illnesses. Course is designed for those in the early childhood education industry as well as for parents/caregivers. Includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Exceeds competitor's standards by including injury prevention content, CPR and AED. (Duration: 8 hours | Recert: 6 hours)

People Savers

A four-level program developed by the Canadian Red Cross to teach safety awareness and first aid skills to elementary school-aged children. Lessons taught by the PeopleSavers Facilitator are supported by colouring workbooks for each level. Participants follow the PeopleSavers character for each level through a variety of everyday situations that are potentially dangerous and they learn to check for safety, call for help, and care for an injured person. The PeopleSavers mascot is always there to reinforce the safety message: "Prepare! Stay Safe! Survive!"

Who needs first aid?

If you are a parent, a caregiver or an office worker, our first aid training will prepare you for an emergency. We also offer specialized training for many groups, including young people who wish to be babysitters and adults who wish to become first responders.

Which CPR course is best for you?

CPR A includes the skills and knowledge necessary to perform CPR on an adult. CPR C includes all of the material in the CPR A course and adds a component for treating children. CPR BLS is an advanced course designed for health care providers. All of our CPR courses include instruction in the use of an Auto External Defibrillator (AED).
